Escrow is

“ [s]omething (e.g., a document, an encryption key) that is delivered to a third person to be given to the grantee only upon the fulfillment of a condition.[1] ”
“ [t]he storage of a resource by a third party which has access to that resource when certain well-defined conditions are satisfied.[2] ”
