Measurement
A meter (also spelled metre) is a unit of length in the metric system. Originally intended to be one ten-millionth of the distance from the Earth's equator to the North Pole, its definition has been periodically refined. Today it is defined as the distance travelled by light in a complete vacuum in 1/299792458 of a second. A meter is approximately 39.37 inches.
