Definition

Push/pull technology is

[a] combination of technologies for information dissemination and retrieval. Traditionally, data is retrieved by a user request, such as by a Web user. In this case, the user 'pulls' information. Alternatively, an information server may 'push' information to the client without client intervention, usually by applying a predefined profile that filters information.[1]
